Christmas Time in Jackson

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

This year we were able to head to Jackson for Christmas. It was Traci’s year to work Thanksgiving, so she had Christmas off and was able to arrange a week off. We were able to see a lot of family and packed a lot of fun into a short period of time. We started at Matt’s parents house and was able to go to St. Anthony to see his grandparents. It was good seeing them in their new home. It was funny to watch Grandma Robertson be so social with all the other residents and being so proud of her family. Grandpa Robertson was actually in a great condition. It was fun seeing Christie and grabbing a bite to eat with her after the visit. We were also able to visit Traci’s grandparents in Burley. It has been two years since we have seen them. It was fun to see Dwight and Kristain and Roger and Lavonne as well. Seeing everyone interact and seeing everyone’s reaction to Derek’s new baby was fun. Matt had fun there too, despite London not liking to hang out with him.

The first half of the week was with Matt’s family. Gretchen and Tobias were able to make it up from Arizona for the holidays. Matt did some portraits for them. It was fun seeing them because we haven’t seen Gretchen and Tobias since their wedding just over two years ago. Matt’s aunt and uncle, Sue and John, came up from Salt Lake to visit too. It has been a long time seeing everyone, so it was great to catch up with family.

The second part of the week was with the Tuckers. It was fun having everyone together. It was fun to play with our new niece Heidi and Derek and Nichole were willing to let us help with the baby. Christmas day started a little eventful for Jim. It was his week on call for Battalion Chief with the fire department. He hadn’t received a call yet, but had three on Christmas morning. It makes us grateful for the men and women who serve in the capacity of military, law enforcement, and fire fighting, and the sacrifices they and their families make. An interruption for a few hours is nothing compared to the service they render to the public. Thank you for all you do.

We were able to do the touristy thing and go on a sleigh ride on the elk refuge with Erick, the Tuckers family friend. Matthew took a lot of pictures while we were in Jackson. It was a great holiday with friends and family. Reminds us how lucky we are to have the family we have and the place we came from.

We love you all and hope to hear from you soon!

Announcement

Monday, December 28th, 2009

We have officially made an announcement in our Christmas letter, but due to limited supplies, could only send out a limited amount. But we felt it is time to share with everyone some big news from the Mellor family.

About a year and a half ago we were told one word that would change our lives, Infertility. It is a word that no couple wants to hear. I had been diagnosed with severe form of poly cystic ovarian syndrome. There were few fertility treatment options being that my syndrome is so severe. They were a risky maneuver due to my diabetes and the risk of having multiple babies at one time. If I just had diabetes or just had infertility it maybe could haven been doable but the two together makes for a bad equation. After discussing it with my doctors, it was decided that for the health of me and my babies it would not be a wise option. We were devastated. Being a girl, I have always wanted to be a mom and we wanted to experience the joy that we see others around us feel because of their children. So after many prayers and heartfelt conversations we felt very prompted that we should adopt. So for the past few months, we have been working on the paper work for adoption through LDS Family Services. Our process for approval as adoptive parents is coming close to completed and should be officially done by March. Then the waiting begins to have a birth mother choose us to place their child with.

We have felt blessed for the support as we have been going through this process and appreciate the love and support our family has given. We are so grateful for those who have helped us along the way. We want to thank those who wrote such great letters to LDS Family Services on our behalf. We are very excited about this new endeavor in our lives. We hope that all of you will continue to keep us in your prayers that we may one day become parents. So here begins our adoption journey!

Snow Day!

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

For the last day and half it hasn’t stopped sSNOW 002nowing! Everything in Lincoln has shut down even the schools and the University. A foot of snow has fallen, now you are all probably thinking why are 2 Wyoming grown kids shocked by this weather?? This city is paralyzed by that much snow, it stopped snowing this morning and we are still stuck at home because none of the side streets are clear and not to mention its FREEZING! The wind chill is -15 right now yuck. The wind is crazy out here and has drifted the snow like crazy. Matt has been home from school for 1 1/2 days because the university closed down and its his finals week-so he gets some extra study time :) . I unfortunately had to work the past few nights, nurses don’t get snow days ;) . It took awhile to get to and from work but I made it! Some nurses had to stay at the hospital in empty patient rooms because it was too dangerous to drive home and they had to work the next day. Driving home from work this morning I saw several people getting stuck and was so impressed because the minute someone was stuck some stranger immediately stopped to assist-gotta love that midwestern kindness! The snow is beautiful though and has made us feel like we are at home again! :) And it finally feels like Christmas! We hope all of you are doing well!
