Just Another Update

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Just to fill everyone in since we are posting a few new pictures, but not saying much about them.  First, Matthew finished his first semester of law school.  It was a busy last two weeks while he was taking mid-terms, but he made it through and now has a three week break.  To try to make it a fun experience, Matthew and a few other guys from school started a tradition of Mustache Finals.  We will see if it carries over to next semester, but there are a few pictures of Matthew and his friends who participated in the event.  It was mostly to add some comic relief to  the busy stressful time of mid-terms.  The next photographs are the beginning of our Christmas and winter in Nebraska.  We have just a few photo’s showing our decorations and will add more to the album as Christmas time progresses.  Then there are a few photo’s of our first Nebraska snow and after our first Nebraska freezing rain.  Freezing rain is some hard stuff to handle.  The cars left outside are entombed in thick ice which requires a lot of time to chip away.  The pictures don’t do it justice.  The final new album of photo’s are just a few from the first Nebraska basketball game we went to.  The environment is not as electric as the football games, but they are still fun.  The tickets are cheaper and easier to get a hold of.  We went with some friends from church, Mike and Megan.  Traci is still busy at work, and has to work on Christmas and the days surrounding.  Despite that, we are looking forward to having some time together and just relaxing a lot.  We hope you all have a great holiday and hope to hear from you soon!

Star City Parade 2008

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

Hello everyone!

On Saturday we went to the Star City Parade. Its Nebraska’s version of the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade…seriously! They had big balloons and everything! Needless to say it we were very impressed and had a great time! Matthew is getting into the swing of finals so he is very busy and not at home much but thats okay because I am working alot this week. We put our christmas tree up and put lights on our house so we are all ready for the holidays. It has been very cold here lately, not any snow just plain old cold. We are discovering the wind out here makes it a lot colder than we are used to. We are hoping for a white Christmas though! We are enjoying Nebraska and so grateful for all the wonderful friends we have made here. You know who you are! :) We hope to here from all of you soon! Much Love!

Our first Nebraskan Thanksgiving

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Traci and I just had our first Nebraskan Thanksgiving.  Because of the short break and Traci’s work schedule, Traci’s family came to Lincoln to celebrate the holidays.  Derek drove from Ft. Collins and her parents flew into Omaha.  They all came on Wednesday and we ate in Omaha and just hung out for a bit that evening before everyone headed for bed.  On Thursday Derek and I were presented with the opportunity to play a Turkey Bowl at Memorial Stadium.  This was a unique opportunity because the university doesn’t allow a lot of access to the actual football field.  So three wards in Lincoln were invited to play football on Nebraska’s sacred turf.  It was a lot of fun, but word got out and instead of three wards being there, it was the entire stake.  Oh well.  Thanksgiving continued with Traci, Nichole, and Patty making the dinner, minus the Turkey.  Derek cooked the turkey in a frier with peanut oil.  The turkey turned out great and so did the entire meal.  We just lounged around the rest of the day and played some Wii that evening.  It was a lot of fun having everyone together.  On Saturday we went up to the Winter Quarters Temple and walked around the visitor’s center. We also went to the Cabela’s in Omaha and I was able to find a good manual to help me learn how to reload my ammunition.  Derek left early on Sunday morning and Jim and Patty flew out later that evening.  Traci enjoyed having her family together since we aren’t able to make it home for any of the holidays.  We are looking at flying to Jackson over spring break so that we can be at home for a bit.  We hope everyone’s holiday was great and we hope to hear from you all soon!
